Lee Iacocca last week made a rare visit to Detroit, the town that made him famous. The noted TV pitchman was hosted by Dick Dauch, his former manufacturing lieutenant at Chrysler and now chief at American Axle. Dauch feted his old boss at a gala dinner for the Iacocca Foundation at American Axle's headquarters. The foundation is dedicated to raising money to find a cure for diabetes.
Iacocca talked of good old days and bad in Motown. And he had some advice for Detroit's current auto titans. In his best Lido-ese, he instructed them to "get off their asses and build more hybrids and not give up that territory to the Japanese."
