LEDs could largely replace xenon front lights if suppliers get them ready for market quickly and sharply reduce prices. If not, LEDs would trickle into front lighting for complementary functions, such as daytime running lights.
But the progress of LEDs chiefly depends on the technological advances at subsuppliers LumiLeds Lighting LLC and Osram GmbH, which sell LEDs to lighting suppliers.
"In the end, we are all in the same position," said a lighting supplier source. "We are waiting for more advanced LED units, and we can only package and assemble them with the optical experience we have."
