Recently our salespeople attended a training session for the new 2006 Pontiac Solstice and Torrent, and while we all hope the Torrent will be successful, the Solstice is by far the nicer of the two vehicles.
At that meeting, the folks from General Motors announced that approximately 12,000 Solstices will be produced in the first year. Hopefully, they are talking about the calendar year, not the model year.
They plan to produce 12,000 vehicles, and 9,200 are already presold to customers, leaving only 2,800 cars remaining for stock.
GM does not produce enough of its hot product, still it plans to share this vehicle with Saturn in the spring as the Saturn Sky.
When GM announced that it was going to separate the brands, most dealers thought it was a good idea.
It seems, however, that we are still going to be selling each other's products.
The new 2006 Torrent is the same as the Chevrolet Equinox.
Bob Lutz called Pontiac a damaged brand. When management gives away a division's hot product to another division, it damages the brand.
It seems that most of Pontiac's damage has come from GM management itself.
