By the end of next year, Jeep's model line will be doubled, up from three nameplates today to six.
Today's line includes the Wrangler, Liberty and Grand Cherokee. The 2006 Commander will be added this fall. It's a seven-passenger SUV that shares the Grand Cherokee's vehicle platform.
Next year two car-based vehicles that share a platform with Dodge will join the lineup. These Jeeps will be the first car-based vehicles for a brand boasting a rugged off-road heritage.
The latter platform was developed with Mitsubishi Motors Corp. The two Jeep models will have all-wheel drive but will not be as capable off-road as the Jeep Wrangler.
Also under review is a pickup based on the Gladiator concept.
