MADRID -- Spanish carmaker Seat will introduce a sliding rear seat in its Altea medium minivan. The move is designed to counter criticism of the Altea's load-carrying capacity.
Starting in September, the Altea will be sold with a rear-seat bench that has 14cm of total seat travel. The new seating arrangement will increase the model's trunk capacity to 510 liters from 400 liters.
The Altea also gets optional Xenon front lights and windshield wiper rain sensors plus a standard tire-pressure monitoring system.
Through May Seat sold 26,177 Alteas, according to JATO Dynamics. Sales of the segment leader, the Renault Scenic, were 132,557 units.
