In the much-ballyhooed resurrection of Lee Iacocca in the Chrysler group's TV commercials, actor Jason Alexander reprises Iacocca's famous line from another era: "If you can find a better car, buy it."
The problem: When consumers were asked in an online survey by Advertising Age whether they could indeed find a better vehicle than a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep, 80 percent of the respondents said yes.
But the 1,097 adults surveyed also indicated that the ads were successful. The vast majority of respondents who recognized Iacocca called him a believable (88 percent) and relevant (81 percent) pitchman. Alas, there's a geezer factor: Only 36 percent of respondents aged 18 to 24 knew who Iacocca was.
