Domestic brands have been battered by bad news lately, but there's some cheer to be found in the domestics' service departments.
For the first time since it began its brand index in 1986, J.D. Power and Associates reports that domestic brands took the top three spots in its Customer Service Index Study. The survey measures the satisfaction of people who visit dealer service departments for maintenance and repairs during the first three years of ownership.
Lincoln ranked first for the second straight year, followed by Cadillac (up from fourth last year) and Saturn (up from sixth in 2004).
It also was the first time domestic brands had finished first two years in a row.
The study was done in spring. Power asks owners to rate their experiences during the past year.
