DETROIT - ZF Fawer Chassis Technology Co. opened a plant to produce axles and chassis parts in Changchun, China.
The plant is a joint venture between ZF Friedrichshafen AG of Friedrichshafen, Germany, and Fawer of China.
The plant has begun making axles. In 2006, it will start making chassis parts.
The plant supplies Audi, Volkswagen, Chery and FAW.
The plant has 170 employees but will increase to 350 by 2007.
The joint venture will start making control arms, stabilizer bars, triangular torque rods, steering knuckles, king pins, steering rods and four-point arms in 2006.
ZF supplies transmissions, steering systems, suspension parts, axles, clutches and dampers. Its North American headquarters is in Northville, Mich.
Fawer is an affiliate of First Auto Works of China.
