LOS ANGELES -- The new headquarters of Kia Motors America in Irvine, Calif., will have its own design studio, breaking away from the current Hyundai-Kia Motors Design and Technical Center nearby.
The existing studio will eventually be used solely by Hyundai designers. Kia's new $17 million, 65,000-square-foot studio is part of a $70 million headquarters layout on 21.7 acres that broke ground last week. The headquarters building is slated to be complete by December 2006. The design studio will open in spring 2007.
The new headquarters will include a 10,000-square-foot lobby with 30-foot ceilings, a 36,000-square-foot reflecting pool, an outdoor amphitheater, fitness center and employee cafe.
