Michigan is still the top U.S. automotive power center, according to Business Facilities magazine's annual list of the nation's best places to design, develop and manufacture vehicles.
This marks the second time in the two years of this ranking that Michigan has topped the list, which rates states on three criteria: number of auto-dependent workers as a percentage of the total workforce, auto-related employment and the number of automotive facilities, such as parts distribution and corporate offices.
"Despite the gains in the automotive industry seen by other parts of the country over the last decade, Michigan is still by far the nexus of automotive experience in this country," Karim Khan, Business Facilities' editor in chief, said in a release.
California, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana rounded out the top five automotive power centers.
Business Facilities is a national site-selection magazine with news and resource information for executives looking to expand or relocate their companies.
