The position, officially called ambassador to the court of St. James, is one of the loftiest for U.S. diplomats. Tuttle, 62, has been a donor and high-dollar fundraiser for President Bush and other candidates.
Tuttle is co-managing partner of Tuttle-Click Automotive Group headquartered in Irvine Calif., which sells Ford, Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep brands.
His political experience includes a stint as assistant to the president in the Reagan administration from 1982 until 1985, when he was named director of presidential personnel. He held that position through the end of Reagan's presidency in 1989.
Tuttle-Click Automotive Group is 36th on Automotive News' ranking of top 100 U.S. dealers with 2004 sales of 24,476 units.
