MUNICH - BMW now has its own Formula One team.
The German automaker has bought the Swiss-based Sauber team, ending a four-year partnership with UK-based Williams.
BMW's new commitment to F1 racing could weaken plans by some automakers for a breakaway world championship in 2008.
Its divorce from Williams also reflects BMW executives' disappointment that the team hasn't won an F1 title yet.
Earlier this month BMW CEO Helmut Panke said: "We are not satisfied with the sixth and seventh places and we are in intensive discussions on how to do better."
