MUNICH - Alfa Romeo CEO Karl-Heinz Kalbfell said he wants to make the brand "financially more solid." He declined to be more specific, but admitted that Alfa will not break even this year.
Kalbfell made the comments during the press launch of the Alfa Romeo 159 here.
Analyst Philippe Houchois of J.P. Morgan in London forecasts that Alfa will shrink its operating loss to E100 million this year from E180 million in 2004.
The company last broke even in 2002.
During the press event Kalbfell reconfirmed Alfa's goal to produce 300,000 units a year before the end of the decade. Last year, Alfa made 162,166 cars, down 11.3 percent from 182,773 the previous year.
