Ford Motor Co. and other automakers must refuse to knuckle under to bigotry.
The American Family Association has suspended its boycott of Ford until December so dealer intermediaries can discuss with Ford the group's concern that the automaker vigorously promotes a "homosexual agenda."
It would be a waste of time for Ford executives even to listen. Ford will do much better as a hip, forward-looking enterprise that caters to - and likes - all people, rather than become part of a hate campaign by kowtowing to the association.
In the long run, it makes the best business sense to be supportive of diverse cultures. And it's the right thing to do.
