Ford Motor Co. has succumbed to the inevitable and placed cash rebates on its two newest models: the 2005 Ford Five Hundred sedan and Ford Freestyle wagon.
Both carry $1,000 givebacks. As an alternative, Ford is offering a loan-rate spread of 0 percent to 3.9 percent on the vehicles. Previously, the only come-on for the Five Hundred and Freestyle was a spread of 1.9 percent to 5.9 percent.
Ford Motor also added the 2006 Ford Econoline van and Escape SUV to the rebate list at $500 each. The Escape Hybrid is excluded. The $3,000 givebacks on the 2005 Lincoln LS sedan and Mercury Monterey minivan have been dropped, and the spiff on the 2005 Lincoln Navigator SUV has been raised to $3,000, from $2,000.
Elsewhere, Mazda upped the ante $250 to $500 on the 2005 MPV minivan, Mazda6 sedan and B-series pickup and reduced the Tribute SUV payment by $250.
Toyota added $50 to $250 to rebates on the 2005 Camry sedan and Highlander and RAV4 SUVs and cut $100 from the Corolla sedan and Matrix wagon. On 2004s, the Camry payment is $1,000 to $1,500, up $250.
All incentives in this report expire July 5.
