WASHINGTON -- AutoNation Inc. executive James Evans Jr. is leaving the country's largest dealership group in mid-August. Consequently, he also must step down as chairman of the American International Automobile Dealers Association, AIADA President Marianne McInerney said Friday.
Evans, 44, is AutoNation's market president, where he oversees the company's 14 luxury stores in Florida.
He was the first executive of a large, publicly traded dealership group to lead a national dealership association. He wants to go back into business for himself, McInerney said.
She added that AIADA Chairman-elect Don Hicks, owner of Shortline Automotive Inc. of Aurora, Colo., will move up to the chairmanship early and serve through 2006.
