WASHINGTON -- The 2005 Chevrolet Malibu with an optional airbag package earned a good rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the latest round of side-impact crash tests.
The institute, a research arm of auto insurers, says the car is much improved over the 2004 model, and it proves "you don't have to buy an expensive luxury car to get good protection."
The 2005 Audi A4 and S4 cars with standard side airbags also earned a good rating in the test, which simulates a side-impact crash by a pickup or SUV. The Volvo S60 sedan scored acceptable. Both the Suzuki Verona and Nissan Maxima sedans were marginal.
