To the Editor:
Wouldn't it be easier for the Big 3 to compete against the import companies if:
1. The Big 3 didn't have to pay pensions to so many retired employees compared with the import companies?
2. They didn't have such high medical insurance and medical care costs compared with the import companies?
3. They didn't have a government that refuses to protect them from importers as the home nations of the imports do?
4. They had people in their home country who would buy from them, even if the prices were higher and the quality was lower, so as to protect their neighbors' jobs, the way people in other countries do?
I guess it's easier for all concerned if we blame the Big 3 for poor design, quality and a lack of interest in competing.
