A trio of Mini Cooper convertibles - one red, one white, one blue - starred in the 2003 movie The Italian Job. Now they are the featured attractions of a new roller coaster ride.
The Italian Job: Stunt Track opened last month at Paramount's Kings Island theme park in Cincinnati. Its sister park in Toronto has a similar roller coaster.
The thrill ride, which emulates movie chase scenes, is the latest example of a brand placing its name in an unusual setting to generate word-of-mouth advertising.
Nearly one million people are expected to visit Kings Island this year.
Mini USA has a licensing agreement with Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom International Inc. Paramount made The Italian Job and runs the theme parks that include the ride.
Mini spent millions of dollars - it won't say how much - to promote the thriller, which features the Mini Cooper in chase sequences. It also provided 32 cars for the film.
