TNT is mounting a large-scale marketing effort for the show, which will feature Audi.
The network's Web site, www.tnt.tv, will direct viewers to Audi's site, www.audiusa.com, for information about Audi vehicles.
"There will be no question that (the show) is sponsored exclusively by Audi," says Linda Yaccarino, general manager of advertising sales and marketing for Turner Entertainment, which operates TNT.
During the premiere, an on-air graphic will read: "You're watching 'The Closer,' presented commercial-free by Audi."
Yaccarino says TNT and its sister cable network, TBS, want to move beyond traditional 30-second commercials.
"We want to give our clients something they can't get everywhere else and be able to say something uniquely," she says.
Mary Ann Wilson, marketing communications manager for Audi of America, calls Audi's sponsorship of the show "an integrated opportunity."
"It's a sophisticated drama series whose main character the Audi persona can certainly relate to," Wilson says. "We think there's a positive rub-off on the Audi brand."
Neither Wilson nor Yaccarino would confirm what Audi is spending to sponsor the premiere broadcast.
"Audi has been a client of ours," Yaccarino says. "They happily are a bigger client of ours now."
