DETROIT -- Auto supplier ArvinMeritor Inc. last week said that it will cut 1,850 jobs as part of a plan to close or consolidate 11 plants, Reuters reported.
About 300 salaried workers and 1,550 hourly employees - about 6 percent of its work force - will be trimmed, ArvinMeritor said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The company said most of the plant closings would be in Europe, but it did not give specific numbers.
The filing came in the wake of disappointing quarterly results. The Troy, Mich., supplier said it lost $33.0 million on sales of $2.28 billion in the quarter ended March 31, compared with a profit of $41.0 million on sales of more than $1.99 billion in the year-ago period.
