Mitsubishi Motors Corp. wants former executives who covered up vehicle defects to pay up.
The company seeks a total of about $12 million from three former presidents and four other executives for their roles in the scandal. It also wants 10 other former executives to pay back one-half of their severance packages, which would total about $3.26 million.
The decades-long practice of hiding defects was discovered in 2000. The fallout has crippled Mitsubishi's sales in Japan.
