FRANKFURT -- DaimlerChrysler said on Monday no decision has been taken on a possible new Mercedes sports tourer model, despite a newspaper report that the German city Bremen was about to be selected for production.
"No decision has been made, neither over production nor location," a DaimlerChrysler spokesman said, adding that the report was "purely speculation".
He reiterated that a decision to build a new sports tourer model, aimed at rival BMW's X3, would be made by the middle of the year.
Handelsblatt, quoting company sources, said in an advance copy to be published on Tuesday that Bremen was close to being chosen because it was offering, among other things, to save the company about 100 million euros ($130 million).
DaimlerChrysler's plants in Berlin's Ludwigsfelde and Brazil's Juiz de Fora were also vying for the new model that should come to the market in 2008, the report said.
