DETROIT -- Mitsubishi Motors North America has promoted Jerry Berwanger to run its assembly plant in Normal, Ill.
Berwanger, 56, has been the plant's senior vice president of quality and operations. He replaces Rich Gilligan, who became CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America in January.
The appointment comes as the factory is set to launched the redesigned 2006 Eclipse coupe. The new Eclipse is expected to reach showrooms by late May. The plant also builds the Mitsubishi Galant sedan and Endeavor sport-utility vehicle.
Berwanger and Gilligan are veterans of Ford Motor Co. Gilligan hired Berwanger to join him at the Illinois factory in March 1999. Prior to that, Berwanger had worked in management at Ford's assembly plants in Kansas City, Mo., and Chicago.
