Werner Frey has overseen Hyundai's sales surge in Europe, now he will try to fix Fiat Auto's operations in Germany.
Hyundai Europe's vice president since 2002, Frey will move to Fiat Deutschland, the carmaker's sales subsidiary for the Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia brands in Europe's largest market.
Frey, 55, starts at Fiat on July 1.
Fiat Deutschland had been without a boss since Stephan Winkelmann left last November to lead Lamborghini.
Frey inherits big problems in Germany. Fiat Auto's share of the market dropped to 2.49 percent on sales of 81,424 units last year, from 2.75 percent on sales of 88,880 cars in 2003.
