DETROIT -- Toyota Motor Corp. is facing union efforts at two plants in its North American operations.
UAW organizers are seeking support from approximately 7,000 workers for a union election at Toyota's Avalon-Camry-Camry Solara plant in Georgetown, Ky.
At Toyota's nonunion Cambridge, Ontario, plant, where 4,200 workers build the Corolla, Matrix and Lexus RX 330, workers are being solicited by the Canadian Auto Workers.
Under Canadian law, once a union has signatures from 40 percent of a work force, the union can petition the Ministry of Labor for an election within five days. A spokesman for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. said no such request has been made.
