HONG KONG -- The Chinese carmaking venture between Denway Motors Ltd. and Honda Motor Co. said on Monday that it sold 11,101 cars in February, up 72.7 percent from the same period last year.
But the figure was lower than the 12,000 cars Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co. Ltd. sold in January as the Chinese New Year holiday trimmed the number of working days in February.
Guangzhou Honda sold 5,611 Accord sedans and 5,488 Fit subcompacts last month, it said in a statement on its Web site.
The automaker also launched its remodeled Odyssey minivan over the weekend at prices ranging from $29,800 to $30,770.
Earlier this year, Guangzhou Honda cut prices for its new Accord sedan model by 7 percent to 9 percent.
Chinese carmakers have been cutting sales prices to attract buyers as capacity increases and slowing sales growth have created a glut of unsold cars.
Guangzhou Honda put its yearly sales target at 230,000 cars this year, a 14 percent increase over 2004.
