Siemens VDO Automotive wants to become one of the top three suppliers in the original-equipment vehicle radio business in the US.
Siemens VDO acquired 6 percent of the US original-equipment vehicle radio business when it bought the Chrysler group’s electronics US plant in Huntsville, Alabama, last April.
Siemens VDO is now the single largest supplier to the Chrysler group. The German partsmaker plans to increase its presence in the OEM radio market, which is dominated by Delphi and Visteon.
“We would like to be one of the three strong players in the US. Our goal is to have other customers besides Chrysler,” said Günter Hauptmann, Siemens VDO’s board member in charge of the company’s global infotainment business, during a press event here.
Siemens VDO has 18 percent of the global market OEM radio business.
Siemens VDO has developed its own radio platform and is in discussions to sell it to US automakers.
