The topic of China rose infrequently in Geneva, but when it did, showgoers gossiped about January sales there. Hyundai Motor Co.'s sales that month topped longtime market ruler Volkswagen AG.
It was partly a fluke. VW had pulled sales ahead in December to meet year-end targets, and Hyundai benefited from a large taxi order in January, analysts said. But it was another reminder that VW's dominance in China is ending.
