GENEVA -- Fiat's share of the Italian car market was just over 29 percent in February from 27.8 percent in the previous month, a sector source said on Tuesday. Earlier on Tuesday, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said car sales figures for February were "encouraging" for Fiat.
He gave no further details. Official data on Italian new car registrations was due later Tuesday.
Newspaper Il Giornale reported on Tuesday that Italian car sales dropped 5 percent year-on-year in February, with Fiat's share at around 27.8 percent, stable on January.
