FRANKFURT -- Riding the biggest product offensive in its history, BMW AG generated record U.S. vehicle sales in 2004 and capped it off with an 18 percent surge in December, it said Tuesday.
Sales of the BMW and Mini brands advanced to an all-time monthly high of 29,292 units in December, it said. Deliveries of BMW-brand cars and SUVs advanced 22 percent to 25,482 units, while Mini-brand sales slipped 5 percent to 3,810 cars.
That brought unit sales for the BMW and Mini brands to a record 296,111 vehicles in 2004, up 7 percent. Turnover of BMW brand models rose 8 percent to 260,079 vehicles, while sales of the Mini brand inched up by 22 cars to 36,032.
BMW's SUVs powered the sales growth last year, up 72 percent to 69,829 units, while BMW car sales dipped 5 percent to 190,250.
