Maybe someone should ask Ford Division chief Steve Lyons who will win this year's Super Bowl.
Last January, Lyons, basking in the glow of winning the North American Truck of the Year award, predicted that the Ford F-series pickup would break the sales record for a vehicle in one year - a record the F series already held.
He was right.
Sales for 2004 will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 4. But last week sales of the F series passed the 912,000-unit mark, breaking the previous record of 911,597 units set in 2001, a Ford spokesman said. To celebrate, Ford gave truck No. 912,000 to Guillerma Zavala Jr. of San Antonio at no charge.
The sales record is a bright spot in an otherwise challenging year for Ford Division. Through November, Ford Division sales were down 4.7 percent to 2,522,023 units, and it had lost 1.0 percentage points of U.S. market share to hold 16.4 percent.
