A Lexus dealer in suburban Dayton, Ohio, has opened a stand-alone dealership to sell certified used Lexus
vehicles. He calls it the first store of its kind in the United States.
The Lexus of Dayton Pre-Owned Center in Centerville is around the corner from the new-car dealership. It occupies 17,000 square feet on four acres. The $4 million dealership opened Nov. 17. Lexus of Dayton owner John Higgins says he expects the used-vehicle dealership to "become a model for others."
Ron Schroeder, a spokesman for the dealership, says Lexus of Dayton sells about 60 certified used Lexus vehicles a month. He projects that figure to rise to 75 to 80 vehicles a month because of the new store.
In addition to certified Lexus vehicles, the stand-alone store sells late-model used cars and trucks from other luxury brands, Schroeder says.
The used-vehicle dealership takes many of its styling cues from Lexus new-car stores. It has a gift shop, a business center with telephone, fax and Internet access, and a 10-bay service center.
Across the United States, Lexus sold 3,453 certified used vehicles in November, up from 3,050 in November 2003. The company sold 39,901 certified used vehicles in the first 11 months of 2004, up from 37,323 vehicles in the year-ago period.
