DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. has recalled the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute to fix the liftgate, which could open during a crash if left unlocked. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the recall covers more than 310,000 units of the small SUV from the 2001 through 2005 model years.
It was the second recall issued in December for the Escape and Tribute. The first was for a faulty throttle cable that could prevent the engine from returning to idle. That recall covered vehicles from the 2002 through 2004 model years.
