BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems landed a contract to supply its four-wheel-drive system to a North American automaker for use on an SUV program. The supplier did not reveal the manufacturer of the vehicle.
The contract is for an electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system with torque controlled by electronic sensors and microcomputer controls. The system increases and decreases torque to front or rear wheels as need. BorgWarner says the technology also reduces noise and vibration, and improves fuel economy.
BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems supplies transfer cases and torque management systems for all-wheel-drive vehicles and passenger cars. BorgWarner Inc. ranks No. 29 on the Automotive News list of top 150 original equipment suppliers to North America with 2003 original equipment sales of more than $1.5 billion.
