In her varied career, Karen Francis -- the former chief of Ford Motor Co.'s ConsumerConnect e-business unit -- has marketed toothpaste, Oldsmobiles, the Web and California wine. Now, she's bringing all that experience to her new job -- chairman and CEO of ad agency Publicis & Hal Riney in San Francisco.
Francis, 42, takes the reins of an agency with a client roster that includes Sprint, Hewlett Packard and Beringer Vineyards.
She has been helping Limerick Lane Cellars, a small California winery, expand its distribution since she left Ford in 2002.
If the name of the agency sounds familiar, it's because Hal Riney crafted the "Different Kind of Car. Different Kind of Car Company" campaign for Saturn until it lost the account in 2002.
