Fiat Auto is cultivating a German accent.
Karl-Heinz Kalbfell, a 28-year BMW AG veteran shocked colleagues on Monday, Oct. 18, when he quit without warning as head of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars after only five months on the job. At the time, he said he had a new job with an unnamed automaker.
Kalbfell will run Alfa Romeo, sources have told Automotive News Europe. The move could be made official this week, but Kalbfell, 54, probably won't start until March.
Kalbfell was recruited by Fiat Auto CEO Herbert Demel, who came to the automaker after stints at Robert Bosch GmbH, Audi AG, Volkswagen AG and Magna Steyr. Demel, an Austrian, already has brought three other German-speaking executives into the Fiat fold.
