TURIN -- Pininfarina plans to sell tailor-made versions of its 75th anniversary car, the Enjoy two-seat roadster.
The Italian coachbuilder had planned to build 75 identical Enjoys to celebrate the company's 75 years in business, all equipped with a Toyota four-cylinder 1.8-liter engine tuned by Lotus to 192hp.
But it will now build a number of one-off versions of the Lotus Elise-based Enjoy with prices starting at E200,000.
This is because of customers' demands and because of various type-approval constraints imposed in different countries.
Potential buyers want special features.
Pininfarina was expected to unveil a production version of the Lotus Elise-based Enjoy at the Paris auto show, but postponed the launch after potential customers asked for changes.
The Enjoy was unveiled as a concept car at the March 2003 Geneva auto show. A production-ready version was previewed on June 5 at the Louis Vuitton concourse d'elegance in Waddesdon Manor, near Oxford, UK, and later shown to potential customers in Tokyo, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The production Enjoys will be delivered to customers in 2005 and 2006. As originally intended, no more than 75 units will be built.
The production Enjoy features interior design by Louis Vuitton and a specially designed car stereo system by Bang & Olufsen.
