WASHINGTON -- Ford Motor Co. is adding a prominent Democratic lobbyist to its revamped but still Republican-led Washington office. He is Peter Arapis, 46, who was a senior adviser at the law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. He also has been a former top aide to Senate Democratic Whip Harry Reid of Nevada.
Arapis is scheduled to become a Ford legislative manager this month, he confirmed Friday.
While many major corporations employ lobbyists from both parties to improve access to both sides of the political aisle, the appointment suggests Ford is preparing for any outcome in the Nov. 2 elections.
Arapis discounted that theory. He said Ford is "putting together a top-notch team, and I'm proud to be a part of it."
