Americans can't get enough of the Toyota Prius hybrid, and neither can Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc.
So the U.S. sales arm wants Toyota to consider building the Prius and other hybrids at one of its North American plants. One candidate: the Cambridge, Ontario, plant that builds the Lexus RX 330. Hybrid versions of the RX and mechanically similar Toyota Highlander go on sale next year.
Toyota already has doubled the number of Priuses to be sent to the United States next year to 100,000 units. But customers still must wait as much as a year to get the vehicle.
