FRANKFURT -- General Motors unit Adam Opel AG will suspend production of the compact Corsa model at its German plant in Eisenach for 11 days next month amid sluggish demand, Opel said on Wednesday.
"It is correct that we plan to stop work (on the Corsa) at Eisenach for 11 days in October," an Opel spokesman said, confirming media reports. The stoppage affects only Eisenach and only Corsas, he added.
He said flexible work rules at the plant made such a change possible.
"This shows that demand is not dramatically high, but one should not overdramatise this," he said, noting that output at Eisenach over the full year would not be much less than in 2003.
