Alberto Bombassei is responsible for accelerating profit growth at a company whose main business is to help vehicles slow down.
As chairman and CEO of Italy's Brembo, the world's largest producer of high-performance braking systems, Bombassei last year boosted operating profit 13.2 percent on a 12 percent increase in sales.
The result was achieved against a backdrop of unrelenting pressure from automakers to cut prices.
Brembo designs and manufactures disc braking systems for vehicles ranging from Ferrari's Formula One cars to heavy trucks.
Bombassei's management philosophy is straightforward and can be applied anywhere. He says: "My mantra is very simple: good sense, above all."
