Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer,
Toyota Motor Europe
When Thierry Dombreval joined Toyota Motor Europe in January 2002, Japan's No. 1 carmaker already was enjoying a steady sales increase in Europe.
Toyota has been the European sales and marketing success story for some years.
Yet the Frenchman's contribution to Toyota has been in recognizing diverse regional European cultures.
The former Ford and Renault director and executive has gained a thorough pan-European experience, which helps him understand cultural differences. He is appreciated as a car guy with a sense of the changing marketing environment -- a talent that is expected to pay off even more in the future.
"He is pragmatic in his approach but has a good sense for cooperation with the Japanese, on one hand, and bridges his understanding for the Japanese culture with those of Toyota's national sales companies and private distributors in Europe," said a Toyota distributor.
For Toyota, Dombreval is the right person to help it achieve its sales goal of 1.2 million units a year in Europe by 2010.
