I wish to comment on Mark Rechtin's column on the moves he sees as an automotive reporter to support the return of Peugeot to the U.S. market.
Let's face it, the industry cannot handle another brand name. I seriously feel this would be another disaster.
Remember the rust bomb from Renault with American Motors in the 1970s?
Of course, product design and quality have come a long way since then, and Peugeots are excellent products in their market. I agree that Peugeot has been and will continue to be successful in Europe and select overseas markets.
I cannot agree with Daewoo Motor America as a possible distribution source. If I were Robert Peugeot, I would have second thoughts about college kids promoting my brand or, for that matter, some phone-booth-size operator handling inventory.
