This weekend's Woodward Dream Cruise will be another great weekend for Detroit and its automakers.
People with intense brand loyalty from all over will be in town to celebrate. General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler group have scheduled a barrage of publicity and marketing tie-ins this week. After all, most of the cars on Woodward will be good, old Detroit iron.
But domestic-car owners aren't the only enthusiasts who like to show off their old cars. And there are places where owners of classic sports cars and racers go to drive their babies.
For example, a Connecticut company called Vintage Rallies organizes several of these 4-day driving events each year.
They're held in places like New England, West Virginia and Texas Hill Country that have interesting roads and high-class accommodations.
On one of these trips you're also more likely to see an Alfa Romeo or an Austin-Healey than you are on Woodward Ave. this weekend.
But that's not a bad thing.
