DETROIT -- Toyota Motor Corp. expects U.S. vehicle industry sales in August to be similar to July's strong levels and hit an annual rate of 17 million, a top Toyota U.S. official said.
"We are anticipating a strong industry for August," said Bob Carter, vice president of sales at the automaker's U.S. division.
"Our expectation is for a similar level (to July)," he added. "We are right on our plan for August."
Automakers are scheduled to report their light-vehicle sales for August, which has two selling days less this year, on Sept. 1.
Buoyed by high incentives, industrywide light-vehicle sales reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 17.2 million for July, off 1 percent from a year earlier.
