Johnson Controls Inc. will open a vehicle interiors plant in Montgomery, Ala., that will be ready by March 2005 to supply interior trim components and center floor consoles for the Hyundai Sonata, which will be produced at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing's new Alabama plant opening in the spring.
Johnson Controls supplies seating systems, door panels, headliners and carpet for Hyundai's Korean vehicles.
The Montgomery plant will have 70 employees. Johnson Controls is leasing and refurbishing a 120,000 square-foot building.
The company posted a 17 percent rise in quarterly profits during its fiscal third quarter of 2004. Johnson Controls is fifth is on the Automotive News ranking of top suppliers to North American automakers in 2003 with more than $8 billion in sales.
