NANTERRE, France -- Faurecia plans to significantly expand its diesel particulate filter production.
The French exhaust emissions systems specialist plans to produce more than 1 million units a year by the end of 2006.
Last year, Faurecia manufactured 170,000 particulate filters The company plans to more than double it output this year to about 450,000 units -- giving it a 65 percent share of the European market.
In 2000, the supplier designed a diesel particulate filter in cooperation with its major shareholder PSA/Peugeot-Citroen. That system requires an additive.
Last year, Faurecia added an additive-free particulate filter to its range.
Since 2000, Faurecia has sold about 1 million particulate filters to PSA, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Ford.
