D/C joins F1
DaimlerChrysler's acquisition of 40 percent of the TAG McLaren Group may lead other automakers to start bidding for Formula One teams. Former F1 champion Jackie Stewart, who sold his team to Ford earlier in the year, said that he would not be surprised to see BMW, Toyota, Honda and Peugeot also join F1.
1st-half sales up 8%
Defying predictions of a flat market, passenger-car sales rose 8 percent to 7.5 million units in the first half, according to ACEA, the European carmakers association. June sales grew 11.1 percent to 1.35 million units. Sales are expected to fall off in the second half.
