WASHINGTON -- The Chrysler group is recalling 438,000 Chrysler PT Cruisers built for the 2001 to 2005 model years to repair a problem with a power steering hydraulic hose, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says.
The affected vehicles have 2.4-liter engines and automatic transmissions but do not have turbochargers. The company told NHTSA that dealers will reposition the hose or replace it if it is damaged. The hose can be damaged by contact with the differential cover and may leak. The agency says leaking hydraulic fluid creates the risk of an under-hood fire.
